Fitznells is a friendly organisation that has been associated with music in Epsom and Ewell since 1960. Whatever your age, musical experience or background you are bound to find something that interests you. All our instrumental tutors are highly experienced and concerts are regularly held for both the youngest pupils and most experienced performers.
Individual Instrumental Lessons
Individual instrumental lessons for children and adults have always been at the heart of Fitznells. Being held after the normal school day or on Saturdays means parents can easily liaise with the tutor and keep in contact. Lessons for very young students can be 20 minutes but most are normally half an hour long. For more advanced grades they often need to be 45 minutes or an hour. We offer individual on a wide range of instruments, from piano to percussion, recorder to ukelele, and if you can't see what you want - Ask us anyway and we'll try our best to find you a teacher.
Saturday Percussion
From age 2 to Grade 1. These classes are fun and engaging, and lay the musical foundation for all instruments. Free trial lessons can be arranged in advance by phone or email.
Saturday Theory Class
he Saturday morning open theory class covers all Associated Board Grades from 1 to 5. Students can work individually at their own speed but with help always available. This can take the pressure off instrumental lessons, help students gain confidence in their musical knowledge and enable them to go on to advanced levels of study once Grade 5 is passed.
Starlets & Tenors
Starlets and Tenors is a choir open to girls and boys from age 6 to 16 years. We warm up with vocal exercises and encourage technique while learning a wide variety of popular songs and rounds in harmony.
Saturday Drama Classes
Autumn and Summer terms are spent working on a show - either a musical or straight play. Spring term is given over to working on acting technique, using improvisation and interaction games, and culminating in an end-of-term showcase

We found Fitznells Music and Drama through the boys school - both boys do drama with them, and have also done ukulele and singing. I really like that the school is small and family run, with lots of attention to detail, and the children are not one of many, but treated as individuals. There are a massive range of instruments for the children to choose from, and I've now joined the choir there too.
My son started having percussion lessons with Fitznells 8 years ago - he took his grade one, and then decided he didn't want to do any further gradings, but wanted to carry on lessons, and now plays with the advanced percussion group, where children of different levels play together, on a range of instruments. He's also done their theory courses, where you work as part of a small group, at your own level, supported by teaching staff, and just got the third highest in his year at school. He also learns singing there too! It's one of those places where you go to learn one thing, and then hear about other courses/options and want to do those too. Its got a great family feeling to it, with a mutually supportive environment. They put on two shows a year, and my son won the Advanced Percussion Cup at the last show. There's a lovely coffee shop there, which is a great opportunity to meet other parents too. It's fabulous value for money as if you do more as a family, then there are discounts available and I've just joined their women's singing group.
My children do singing in a very nurturing and highly professional environment. The class is not too big and so they are known as individuals and their interests and enjoyment feels as if it is always being considered. I would always recommend the school to others.
Liz Howard has taught my (quite difficult) special needs son for 10 years now, initially on recorder and later piano. She has always been very persistent with hm and has tried hard to teach to his ability. He performed beautifully at his Christmas concert at Fitznells!

Music has always been a very big part of my life, and Fitznells has been a second home for me since I was born - I was able to play a tambourine before I could talk! I took part in the young percussion classes, worked my way through to taking grades in piano, percussion and singing, progressed to accompanying and now I conduct ensembles and run the school. Fitznells has been a constant in my life and I think it is important that we offer an opportunity for everyone to experience music and the joy you can get from it.
Whether you are coming to music for the first time, looking for an activity to do with your child or want to pick up where you left off, Fitznells has something for you.
All three of my children have several classes with Fitznells including percussion, recorder, singing, ukulele, guitar and drama. The children have been going there for four years now and are so comfortable there. Sophie and John really put them all at their ease and make it great fun too! They not only go to classes at the weekend, but after school too, and the whole setup works really well for our family.
