rugby4kids in Plymouth

  1. rugby4kids is an exciting new way to develop your childs physical and social skills through non contact rugby sessions whilst having lots of fun along the way! rugby4kids aim to promote participation in physical activity and healthy lifestyle in pre-school and foundation level children. Rugby is the ideal sport to give your child the building blocks for future physical development and our sessions incorporate a full range of physical and motor skills. The sessions are open to both boys and girls and are specifically designed for children aged between 2 and 7.

    Our sessions work on:-

    • Improving catching, passing and kicking
    • Learning rugby basics like scoring TRYS!!!
    • Communicating and socialising with team mates
    • Develop physical fitness
    • HAVE LOTS OF FUN!!!!

The sessions are split into 3 age groups as follows, with each session lasting 45 minutes:-

    2 ? 3.5 Years ? Tigers

This is the initial introduction to our programme. The Tigers sessions involve parent participation and aim to develop the childs basic core skills including balance and co-ordination whilst encouraging social skills,

All equipment, sessions and venues are utilised with the childrens safety as the first concern, with each session lasting 45 minutes.

    3.5 ? 5 Years

This age group is known as the Sharks and follows a similar basis as the younger age group in terms of physical and social aims. Parent participation with the Sharks is not essential however is more than welcome.

    5 ? 7 Years

This age group is known as the Lions and the principles and aims of the sessions are the same as the younger age groups however the sessions encompass more rugby specific drills. This eventually will progress to games of TAG rugby.

rugby4kids was started by ex Plymouth Albion player Colin Stewart who after 12 years of playing rugby professionally, including 2 years in France, has turned his attention to coaching. He currently heads a Rugby Academy based in South Devon College as well as player/coach at Newton Abbot Rugby Club. After searching for sporting activities for his two young boys to take part in, Colin realised there was a lack of rugby activities for the pre-school and foundation school age range and decided to create his own.

    • Tony, Dad of two boys (3 and nearly 1)

We've been coming to rugby4Kids since the second week it started running, as a friend has recommended it to us. It's a fantastic idea, especially for younger children who don't have much involvement in sport yet. Colin interacts really well with the children and they learn to be competitive, whilst still having fun. The children are challenged whilst not being pushed too far. My son loves coming every week and enjoys being part of a team. I cannot fault this as it's the perfect activity for my son on a Sunday morning.

    • Craig, Dad of one boy and one girl (4 and 2 years old)

We attended the first free initial trial and both my children have been coming ever since! Colin has a great relationship with the children and they have such fun. It is great exercise for the children who can't wait for each Sunday. They wear their Rugby4Kids T-Shirts (included in the membership fee) with pride. Both have enjoyed bringing the mascot home and gaining stickers. The classes are for boys and girls and they learn the value of respect for themselves and their teammates.

We have been attending rugby4Kids since the first session and not missed a week since! My daughter loves it. The venue is great with easy parking. Colin is fantastic with the kids and manages to get them all to pay attention so they get the best out of each session. Our only criticism is that we would like more sessions in the week!
