About The Theatre Workshop - Sussex

The Theatre Workshop runs weekly classes in all aspects of theatre, TV, film, casting techniques, singing, songwriting, youth theatre, choir, GCSE DRAMA, LAMDA drama exams, London College of music Singing exams, ISTD ballet, ISTD tap and pre professional jazz dance . Our unique training methods, developed since we opened in 2003 prepare students for regular professional and amateur performances, exams, festivals and auditions.

If your child has a burning desire to perform, wants to develop their confidence and meet new friends, whilst being trained by the most inspiring teachers out there – The Theatre Workshop is for them!

Many students at The Theatre Workshop are regular faces on TV and in professional theatre but we work hard to ensure all our students feel part of an exciting school and a larger community of students across the county, providing numerous opportunities to shine, but also provide a safe and nurturing environment to learn, regardless of whether a student is determined to become a professional, or just wants to have fun!

The Theatre Workshop is privately owned and managed by a small and passionate team, all of whom have extensive training and experience in the performing arts.

We work with teachers who are both experienced and have substantial professional credits. We select passionate tutors who go the extra mile with their teaching practise to maintain the high standards the school is recognised for. We are proud of this network of professionals, along with our celebrity patrons who associate with and support the school.

We recognise that the mechanics of how the performing arts industry operates is often a grey area for parents and are proactive in advice and guidance when it comes to students making decisions about ways to further develop their talents. We offer a full training programme for young performers aged between 6-20 years old. Whether your child is the next Ed Sheeran or just wants to gain confidence, our training is tailored to meet both of these requirements, being stimulating, inspiring and educational. We’re always happy to meet parents and students to discuss ways for them to progress and give guidance at any stage.

Regular feedback is offered along with the chance to see your child perform (the bit they like best!) at regular performances both small and large scale.

Students success include: Amy-Leigh Hickman as Linzi Bragg in EastEnders, Richard Hadfield of Boyband 'Collabro' BGT talent winners 2014, Rosie Taylor Ritson star of Hollywood film 'Nanny Mcphee and the Big Bang', Brenock O'Connor appearing as a regular in 'Game of Thrones', 5 * National Reviews at Edinburgh fringe for our HUNGRY WOLF VISONARY YOUTH THEATRE, Leo Heller starring in WEST END 'To Kill a Mockingbird', Hetti Bywater as Lucy Beale in EastEnders, Toby Murray starring at the National Theatre in the lead role of Emil in 'Emil and the Detectives', Reece Pockney in 'Call the Midwife'.

Our students have a long history working in professional theatre, and we have seen students appear in the WEST END in MATILDA (3 students), BILLY ELLIOT, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Regents Park), Emil and the Detectives (Title role, National theatre), Strange Interludes (National Theatre with Anne Marie Duff). Students have performed as The Children’s Choir for the Tour of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT numerous times throughout Sussex, in HALF A SIXPENCE UK TOUR , EVITA UK TOUR, ANNIE with Su Pollard UK TOUR, SOUTH PACIFIC UK TOUR , FIDDLER ON THE ROOF UK TOUR, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR UK TOUR , OLIVER! UK TOUR, PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT UK TOUR , THE SOUND OF MUSIC (UK TOUR) PINK FLOYD TRIBUTE ROCK CONCERTS, STREET SCENE (in paris and Barcelona) and in operas LA BOHEME, MADAME BUTTERFLY, CARMEN & TOSCA (all in Italian!) UK TOURS. Our students have also performed in pantomimes, fashion shows, modelling assignments, and concerts – again, with professionals.

We consider ourselves to be at the forefront in developing the part time performing training sector and encourage our tutors to continue to further their practise as well as our students (!), both as teachers and performers. We feel this is a big contributing factor to ensure our training remains fresh and unrivalled. We continually monitor our standards and work to improve at every stage. The Creative team at Theatre Workshop are aware of the changing demands of the performing arts industry and with this our ultimate aim is to ensure students receive relevant training that not only will serve them if they wish to pursue a career as a performer but also will equip them with some very useful life skills, all whilst having a lot of fun in our exciting and varied classes!
