How we teach

Learning at the centre is focused around small group classes (between four and eight in size). All learning materials are exclusively developed and used by our own Centres (Rochester and Tunbridge Wells). These documents are constantly being revised to best suit pupils and the ever changing demands of the 11+. 

We advocate teaching methods where the teacher leads instruction for 10-15 minutes and encourages children to ask questions which are answered immediately. The teacher will then circulate and work one-to-one with pupils; setting targets, citing any gaps in knowledge and amending accordingly. Learning is centred around the three pillars of logical thinking, problem solving and generating a passion for language. Tools and skills are learnt so that students are curious learners that want to go beyond the textbook, and productive learners beyond the 11+ stage.

Scholarships and alternative payments

We run a scholarship scheme where two pupils (11+) receive an academic scholarship. This is for children who are bright, motivated and eager to learn; however, financial circumstances mean that they cannot afford the fees.

We are also in the process of getting OFSTED accreditation for our premises so that we can accept Childcare Vouchers as payment. We also promote the BYT Foundation where all our tutors are available to offer 6 hours of free tuition to children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

If you are unable to attend a class, this simply ‘rolls on’ to the next week when you are able to attend- so you’ll always get the full amount of lessons that you have paid for. Notice for this is not obligatory, but is always greatly appreciated.


Registration of parent and pupil details can be done online or direct by telephone (07989-945-243). Once you register online, the Centre Director (Arthur Ponsonby) will give you a telephone call and discuss your child's progress at school, listen to any specific needs/concerns that you might have and then devise a strategy to best help your child fulfil their potential.
