This year, Tommy’s are hoping to raise £1million with the help of Water Babies and the hugely successful Splashathon.

What is Splashathon?

Our amazing partner, Water Babies, is once again hosting this incredible event where babies and their parents come together to raise money for Tommy’s.

Each Splashathon will take place in your usual Water Babies swimming class on a designated week this summer. You can expect all the fun, bunting and balloons like any other fundraising event, but at Splashathon, the ‘athletes’ are less than 4 years old!

As this is usually the first fundraising event the little ones have ever done, it's always pretty special. This year we are inviting babies to  swim a width for Splashathon.

Why should you take part?

Splashathon is a really fun, happy experience for all involved. But there’s an important reason behind it too. Every year, 1 in 4 women lose a baby during pregnancy or birth. Water Babies is committed to supporting Tommy’s in reducing this unacceptable statistic that devastates families up and down the country. So every mum, dad and baby taking part will be helping other babies who aren't as lucky. And every pound raised, will help to save babies’ lives.

How will the money be spent?

Splashathon takes place every other year, and in 2015 it raised an incredible £816,477 which was the highest total yet. This year, we’re aiming even higher and aim to raise in excess of £1million! And with 43,000 babies taking part in Water Babies each week, the target equates to just £24 of fundraising from each Water Baby. So please start your fundraising today! £1million is more than just a nice round figure; It could enable 60,000 couples to attend the Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research and help them realise their dream of having a baby.

Taking part

If your little one already attends Water Babies classes, then you’re halfway there. You’ll receive information in your class and the date that Splashathon is coming to your pool.

The event will take place in your usual class, so you don’t need to formally ‘sign up’ anywhere, but you do need to set up your fundraising page with Virgin Money Giving so that you can get your fundraising underway and help us get to the total of £1million!

How to start fundraising

It is best to get yourself a personalised fundraising page set up at Virgin Money Giving beforehand. Just click here to get started.

Some quick and easy tips to help:

  1. Personalise your page with a cute pic of your baby in fancy dress or in the pool!
  2. Change the default text to a personal message explaining your reasons for taking part.
  3. Set a target of £200. Obviously you are not committed to raising this amount but research shows the higher your target the more you raise!
  4. Share the link of your fundraising page with your family and friends on social media and ask them to sponsor your little one, in their first fundraising event to help save other babies' lives.

And don’t forget to remind them as the event gets closer; often friends intend to support but forget until their memory is jogged!

If you need an extra paper sponsorship form just download and print one here.
