The Kayak Coach specialises in running various canoeing & kayaking courses and lessons. We operate throughout Sussex & Surrey and are happy to travel to customers’ local waters to run sessions. We offer several courses including Kids-only Kayaking, BCU star award courses, and river trips on the Ouse and Cuckmere rivers to name a few. We also offer birthday parties for as many or as few children as you require.
Kids only Kayaking takes place at Cuckmere Haven, just a few miles down the road from Brighton. This is a 2hr kids kayaking experience designed for children between the ages of 8 - 15 years old. It is a great way to exercise and experience a sense of adventure.
During the session, children can expect to learn the basics of paddling and controlling your boat as well as general safety. The session takes place in a very safe, sheltered and shallow boating area. Once the basics are mastered, we'll head off on a short journey along the beautiful Ox-bow lake of Cuckmere Haven through the nature reserve to explore and participate in games and challenges to put your new skills to the test.
Having completed a few kayaking sessions you will be of a competent level of kayaking and we can issue you with a BCU 1 Star award. The BCU 1 Star award is a nationally recognised award and is a clear stepping stone to becoming a paddler. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Kids only Kayaking is £20 per child.
All Kayaking equipment is provided.
Bring along a wet suit or warm layers to paddle in, fleece material and wool are best. Also bring a bottle of drink, and sun cream if it's a hot day.
Group sizes are a maximum of eight.
Parents or guardians must remain within the vicinity at all times. -

Adrian has taken my children out kayaking several times at Cuckmere Haven in order for them to familiarise themselves with the sport. He is a very good tutor, who is fun but maintains discipline, the ideal way for children to learn. The children love it.

My children have been taught by Adrian regularly for the past five years since they were 9 and 10 (they are now 14 and 15).
Adrian makes the classes really interesting and as my kids have got older he has taught them different age appropriate kayaking skills such as surf kayaking. The classes are fun but at the same time the kids take it seriously and have passed several kayaking examinations. Adrian is extremely reliable and also flexible to allow for my work schedule. -

All of my three children and I have been taught kayaking by Adrian. Ella goes most often as the boys are lucky enough to do kayaking in the sea cadets too. I highly recommend Adrian as he makes lessons fun with ball games and in parallel takes safety really seriously. The kids get exercise, fun and lots of learning out the lessons without even realising it. Adrian is easy to get on with and doesn’t pander to tantrums: he calmly encourages all children to join in and push themselves to do new things. Kayaking is different and has let each child discover more about what he or she is good at. It builds their confidence. The proof of Adrian being good is Ella badgering me to go to more lessons!
