No matter what your age, performing is FUN and EXCITING! Performing4u teaches in a dynamic, fun and energetic way. For some people it might not be about performing, it might be about personal development and gaining confidence. Whatever your reason for joining us, we can offer your child an imaginative, creative experience that really will teach them how to become more confident and fabulous performers!
Emma Spires, the school principal, has been an outstanding qualified teacher for over 15 years in addition to being a professional performer and having travelled all over the world. She is a mum herself and understands that when you are signing your children up to classes you not only want quality but also affordability. She started Performing4u to offer QUALITY classes, by QUALIFIED teachers at AFFORDABLE prices. All teachers used are also CRB checked.
At Performing4u, our drama classes are split into 3 groups:
Stage Babes - 3-5 year olds (Saturday's)
Stage Kidz - 6-10 year olds (Saturday's)
The Talent - 11-16 year olds (Saturday's)
Each class works on all sorts of skills that are not only needed for performing but also skills needed for their Key Stage at school. For example, Stage Babes encourages confidence and imaginative play, Stage Kidz develops teamwork, characterisation and story telling and The Talent will help to develop techniques needed for GCSE Drama, but also for auditions and shows. Each child will work at their own pace and at an appropriate level for them as an individual. All classes have a performance each term.
We also offer Horsham's first Glee Clubs, which offer classes for children and adults:
Horsham Glee - 8-16 year olds (Saturday's)
Horsham Glee - 16+ (Wednesday evenings)
Horsham Glee focuses on singing, movement and dance and we look at different styles of music ranging from music through the ages, to musical theatre and modern day. You don't need to be a fantastic singer and dancer to join this group, but you must be willing to have a go, as most sessions will involve each of these disciplines. Everyone works at their own pace, so if your child (or you) wants to stay out of the limelight to start with, that's not a problem. These classes involve a lot of performing both in class and publicly, so be warned!
For more detailed explanations for each of our classes, please visit our website at www.performing4u.co.uk
Our classes are based in Horsham, West Sussex, however we travel within West Sussex and Surrey to run school workshops. We have children who travel from Warnham, Pulborough and Lower Beeding for our classes.
Classes are paid termly and are based on an 11 week term and sibling / multiple class discounts are available:
Stage Babes - £55 (11 week term - 45 minute classes)
Stage Kidz - £82.50 (11 week term - 1hr classes)
The Talent - £165 (11 week term - 2 hr classes)
Horsham Glee 8-16's - £75 (10 week term - 1hr classes)
Horsham Glee 16+ - £100 (10 week term - 1.5hr classes)
I knew Emma as a teacher before she started Performing4U so knew what a great teacher she is. Thomas was really quite shy when he was little and the goal for taking him to drama classes was to build his confidence. He has absolutely achieved this and you can see it in social situations but also in the difference of his acting on stage between the Christmas and the Summer performances. Thomas loves going to the classes and he loves the games, the time to express himself and he has made friends too. Emma is amazing, is always looking to improve and add new ideas and she even raises money for charity through the business. I have no hesitation in recommending Performing4U.
Holly has been going to Performing4U since it started and loves it. She likes Emma, she likes the fact that Emma uses the children’s own ideas (to act as a princess or mermaid for example) and she likes being with the other children. Emma is really enthusiastic and enthuses the class too. I think that the performances on stage are really good, especially when you think how young the children are. I have no hesitation in recommending Performing4U.
Emma is wonderful teacher. The kids love her. Performing4U is best value for money in Horsham and better than the majority of Drama Schools in the area. Am so glad we found her.
Both my daughters absolutely love their mornings at drama. Emma makes the classes fun and energetic whilst also building the children's confidence, self esteem and imaginations. The show at the end of term is a fabulous chance to see just how much fun the classes are.

So, what can I tell you about me......
I've been performing from the age of 2, when I apparently took the microphone off the man on the stage at the holiday camp and wouldn't give it back until I was coaxed off the stage by my parents.....and that was just the beginning! I went on to win 'All England Dance Festivals', worked in television, performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performed with various theatre companies in Hong Kong. I've cruised around the Med, earnt my full equity membership and trained other people. I have established and directed several successful youth theatres, youth choirs and have run many Theatre in Education projects both internationally and in the UK. I am fully CRB checked.
More formally, I have a BA Hons Degree in Performance Art. I then went on to complete a PGCE and have been a qualified teacher of Drama and Music for the past 15 years. My decision to become a teacher was a positive one and I have never looked back. I have taught up to A'level in both subjects and taught for 4 of my teaching years in an International School in Hong Kong. I have been described by Ofsted as an "Outstanding teacher" for both Drama and Music. More recently I was the Head of Drama and Dance in a secondary school in Surrey, then several years ago I finally took a break to have children.....if you can call that a break!
I remember being in dance schools, musicals, pantomimes and youth theatres as a child and I got so much from it. I made friends, had lots of fun, learnt new skills, became more confident, found it easy to do presentations and assemblies at school....the list really is endless. When I decided to open Performing4u I wanted children to get the same type of experience, and I also wanted to make sure that any skills they learnt weren't just life skills, but things that would help as they progressed through school.
Coming from both a teaching and professional performance background, it is really important to me that children come out of the youth theatres well rounded and a good team player. They need to know how to have a good work ethic, how to use the skills they have learnt in all sorts of situations, and for some people it might not be about performing, it might be about personal development and gaining confidence.
I have sung, danced and acted throughout my entire life - which is just over 40 years - and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every second of it. I just love the magic of it and enjoy paying it forward in some small way!
I look forward to working with you and your child,
Emma
Both girls love going to drama classes with Emma even though their ages are so different. Jenifer loves the story time and acting out the story from a book. They've acted out Going on a bear Hunt and Little Miss books for example. Kathryn just loves everything about it. She spends ALL day there, helping out with the little kids in the morning, acting in her own drama class and then joining the new Glee class. Both girls have gained confidence and made new friends. Emma is fabulous: she has a lovely way about her, engages the children, captures their imagination and attention and is very patient. I have no hesitation in recommending Performing4U
