Our award winning baby, toddler and preschool music classes explore a whole range of educational, fun-filled activities. Each class and activity is written by experts to help give your child the best possible start.
Our music and movement classes are for everyone from 4 months to 5 years and we’ve developed a fun-packed, high-quality educational experience that babies, children and parents love. Music has been shown to have a huge impact on children's development and it's important to start as early as possible. Listening to music is good, but participating in music-making is even better. Our friendly, relaxed classes are the perfect place to do this. Here’s what you’ll get from our classes:
We use our voices, our musical expertise and specially written songs and activities to teach important concepts and skills whilst still providing a fun-filled, magical time. A significant amount of theory and technical know-how goes into the development of the classes and makes them tick, but the beauty of it is that you'd never know that when you’re participating - the classes run smoothly, it’s all fantastic fun and the time flies by. A typical Musical Steps class includes the following:
All of these activities are age-appropriate, educational, and most of all - fun! Pre-school children are also introduced to simple composition and musical notation.

My son used to go to Musical Steps once a week, but we have had to stop recently as I have gone back to work. If I wasn't back at work I would still be going every week! Gerry is a great teacher, and she is very relaxed. My son loved it – whether it was with the instruments, or the extra bits and props that Gerry used with the music. For example, an Autumn Scene, floating feathers or scarves. He was fascinated by the feathers!
I have been taking my younger daughter to music classes for 2 years, since they opened, and she is now in the pre-school class, which she has followed on to from the toddler class. I have recommended it to lots of friends.
The classes follow a set format, but with variations on themes. The children get used to the format, and learn to understand when they need to listen, or play, or stand up. The teacher uses props - like lots of soft toys, and pictures.
Ellie really likes being given songs to sing, and is so proud of herself when she achieves something for the first time. The children know when to concentrate, and when to sit down, but they also get a chance to expend energy.
The teacher mixes classical music with other types of music, for example salsa, and the children are given opportunities to ask for music they like. The children are taught musical ideas such as 'piano' and 'forte' - for example they learn when to bang a drum appropriately to the musical instruction. I have even learnt knew things myself!
While I have been taking my daughter to classes I have really seen the confidence of the teacher grow, and the teacher improve. I have an Australian friend who is a music teacher and she raves about the teaching!

We go to this music group once a week, and they do singing, play musical instruments, and also do some dancing.
I like this group as compared to other groups it is very structured - which is something I like. The group is also small, and my son has learnt to share and take turns. It has also made him more aware of other children, and made him calmer. The children get more attention in a smaller class.
My son really likes the teacher Gerry. She has a really nice rapport with the kids. When he first started he was a bit shy in the class, but once he settled in that stopped, and he isn't shy anymore. When I tell him we are going to Musical Steps he starts singing the songs, and sings in the car on the way there!
The venue is also really nice, in an arts centre, which I appreciate, but I don't know if the children do!
