What's Happening in Epsom & Ewell Issue #2
Welcome to what’s happening in Epsom and Ewell where I’ll be giving you an insight as to what is going on over the next 2 weeks in and around the area. Firstly how lovely has the weather been, although I must say I welcomed the rain this week. Over the last few weeks we did make the best of the sunshine and headed to Hampton Lido and Little Hampton Beach both worth the drive.
Another visit worth making is to the new nature trail inspired by the classic Chronicles of Narnia fantasy novel series that has been unveiled in Banstead, find out a bit more about it here.
Showing at Kids Club at the Epsom Odeon between the 30th June – 13th July is Boss Baby (10am Saturday / 11am Sunday) and The Smurfs: The Lost Village (10am Saturday).

Fancy a trip to the theatre then why not head down to the Epsom Playhouse on Saturday 8th July for “Theatre Box presents A Night at The Movies”
This is a Musical Revue featuring the young & talented cast of ' Theatre Box ' performing medleys from smash hit Hollywood movie musicals including Guys & Dolls, Annie, Hairspray, Bugsy Malone and many more!!! Tickets just £13.

RSB are having a toddler fun day and PICNIC in Priory Park to help fundraise for an invaluable charity called SANDS, stillbirth & neonatal death. Expect games, activities and dancing for the toddlers. What a great way to raise funds for a fantastic cause. See attached for more details.
Golden Days Festival
Age Concern Epsom & Ewell is a ‘small’ charity doing ‘big’ work to celebrate turning 70 they are holding a FREE event for Grandparents and Grandchildren (and all in between) on Sunday 2nd July from 12pm, for more details contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
On Saturday 8th July 2 – 5pm join the annual search for the elusive Purple Emperor Butterfly and to find, identify and record other butterflies and invertebrates that inhabit Epsom Common. Meet at 2.00pm at the notice board at Stew Pond car park, Christ Church Road, B280, Epsom. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear; duration of walk 2-3 hours.
The Ewell Village Fair offers a full day out for the family and this year will be held on Saturday 15th July 10.30am – 4pm.
Keeping little ones entertained every day can be a tiring feat here is a list for some of the local playgroups below but do double check before turning up:
St Paul's - Toddler Group
Church Centre, 15 Northey Avenue, Cheam, Surrey, SM2 7HS
Mondays – 9:45am to 11:15am Tuesdays – 9:45am to 11:15am
Two toddler groups at St Paul’s with a wide range of activities, including construction, creative play, baby area, home and book corners, a different craft each week, and a time for stories and singing.
Come along and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea or coffee, and make new friends whilst your child plays and learns. £1 per family per week. Please enter via the Nonsuch Walk entrance.
Lion Cubs Toddler & Baby group
United Reformed Church hall, London Road, Ewell village.
Wednesdays 9:30am-11:30am term time only
This is a friendly local Toddler group run by mums for mums, childminders and carers. It was originally founded by a lady called Viv over 40 years ago.
It provides a fun and friendly environment for little ones and mums to meet new people from the local community. The group is held every Wednesday morning from 9:30am-11:30am in the United Reformed Church hall, London Road, Ewell Village.
There is lots of play equipment for the kiddies to use and a lovely large hall for the little ones to let off some steam! A donation of £2 for the session helps to cover the hire of the hall. You also get unlimited tea, coffee, biscuits and juice! Everyone is welcome to join.
Stoneleigh Methodist Church’s Carers and Toddlers Group
Stoneleigh, Epsom, KT19 0RT
Thursday during term time from 10:00-11:30
There are toys and activities suitable from newborn through to school age, and each week they have a different art activity as well as a reading and baby area.
During the warmer months the back door is open to a safe water play and sand pit area. There is also a break for drink and biscuit time for both the children and the carers.
The group work on a ‘first-come-first-serve’ basis and has a limit of 35 children. Please make sure that you arrive on time to guarantee your space as the doors are often closed due to numbers.
It is free for your first go to see if you like it, and then £2 per day for up to 2 children, and 50p per extra child after that.
Christ Church Ewell Parent and Toddler Group
Cheam Road, Ewell, Surrey KT17 1AD
Friday morning during term time between 9:30 and 11:15
This group aims to provide a happy, safe place where children can learn to play with others, a friendly atmosphere for parents and carers to meet each other and join in activities with their children.
There are opportunities each week for creative play, crafts, songs and stories (some with a Christian emphasis).
It costs £1.50 a session per family and 50p for an additional child not in your family. This is payable on arrival in the entrance hall to Claire who is there to greet you. You may leave your buggies etc. in the entrance hall.

Local residents are sad to say goodbye to local shop Broadway Bargains that had bee trading on Worcester Park High Street for the last 51 years.
