What's Happening in East Dorset #3
Hi everyone! So, I write this whilst it’s raining outside but did everyone enjoy the gorgeous hot weather we were lucky to have last week? My son (Charlie) and I got to enjoy a lovely day down the beach at our friend’s beach hut. On that day, I realised how lucky we are to live in this part of the world, with our gorgeous beaches literally on our doorstep.
It is also a great, low-cost day out too. Although many beach car park prices have gone up this year, many of our local beaches still have roads near them that offer free parking.
If you are early enough then it allows you to park close by, and with a picnic all packed it provides a free family day out. Well, unless you are like us and must treat yourself to ice creams!
Watching my son spend nearly five hours playing in the sea also made the day more special.
Only four years ago my son feared the water, but after starting swimming lessons at age 3 we now have a confident swimmer who prefers to spend more time under water than on top!
At Kallikids we have three local swimming schools which are accredited with our tick of approval. If you are considering starting swimming lessons with your children then look for the parents’ reviews of Individuality Swimming, Puddle Ducks Dorset, Turtle Tots Dorset Limited and Water Babies – Dorset.
July is Group B Strep Awareness Month. Group B Strep is the most common cause of life-threatening infection in new-born babies, causing meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia.
Were you aware that two babies a day develop Group B Strep infection and one baby a week dies from it. Most of these infections could be prevented but around half of pregnant women haven’t even heard of Group B Strep.
The aim of this awareness month is to help change this and there are many ways you can become involved to support and promote awareness. For more information about Group B Strep and how you can support their awareness please visit www.gbss.org.uk
Have you heard about the new play area that officially opened last weekend?
Located on Sterte Green, Sterte Avenue, Poole the new play park consists of a pirate ship climbing frame, roundabout, baby swings, wobble board and plenty more. The local community group, the Sterte Community Garden Association, successfully raised funds in conjunction with Poole Housing Partnership and the Borough of Poole to build this new play area. Charlie and I hope to try it out soon.
