What’s Happening in Brighton and Hove & Surrounding Areas Issue #2
Welcome to my second issue of the local Brighton & Surrounding Areas KalliKids newsletter! I hope you enjoyed the half term and found my first newsletter helpful in finding some great activities to do. Keep in touch with my local Facebook page too for more information and pictures.
Last week in the half term we visited Buchan Country Park in Crawley. An excellent place for walking, dog-friendly, watching wildlife and enjoying a picnic.
There were a number of sculptures dotted around the park, which was great fun hunting for. My 10-year-old daughter, Isabella, particularly enjoyed that as well as walking through the woodland looking out onto a beautiful scenic lake.
A ‘doggy dipping pond’ was the most exciting part for our water-loving Labrador, Nero.
The highlight of the half term for our little family was being whisked off by surprise to Paris for a short break to celebrate my 40th birthday!
Travelling on the Eurostar to central Paris, visiting the Eiffel Tower and many other famous landmarks, it was a truly remarkable end to a fabulous half term holiday!
The weather next week is not looking too bad. Creeping up to 24 degrees and so far, no forecast for rain!
Easthill Park in Portslade, Brighton, has a large number of attractive features that include a beautiful walled garden, full of mature shrubs and herbaceous borders.
The War Memorial provides a focal point for the well-attended Remembrance Sunday Parade, and the new 'wild gym' will help you stay fit while enjoying the park! And a neighbouring small farm with horses and other animals.
Another great place to visit and sample the delights of the beautiful Sussex countryside is Stanmer House.
Offering an 18th Century Georgian Manor House, you can enjoy a family picnic or dine in the reasonably priced dog-friendly restaurant inside or outside in stunning the garden.
We love to visit the neighbouring village with its small chapel for those interested in 18th-century architecture and quaint picturesque cottages with the most beautiful flower beds and gardens. If you are like me and love to take pictures, the scenery is a photographer’s delight!

The Great Get Together is a brilliant reason to do something in your school to encourage community cohesion and celebrate diversity.
Schools up and down the country are already planning their get together events and assemblies: in Jo’s hometown of Batley in Yorkshire schools from different communities are coming together for a big sports day and picnic.
During the half term, we enjoyed getting creative! My 10 year old daughter loves crafts and here she made a DIY sock bunny, she named ‘Mockimo’, using an old sock, rice and ribbon. If your little one is stuck on what to get for Father’s Day, this is a great personalised gift for him!
I look forward to sharing some more creative ideas with step by step guides in a new exciting blog coming your way soon!
