Hello everyone! 

The weather has been lovely again! 

We have been very excited to harvest and eat some of the salad and potatoes we have been growing in the garden. 

We also spent a sunny morning at the new splash park at Cassiobury park (details below). We had a fantastic time and my son loved running in and out of the splash jets.


There are changing rooms, a café and small kiosk. However, there is little shade so take hats and sunscreen. Have fun!

parks and recreation

Cassiobury Splash Park 

Open until 30th September 10am – 7pm 

As part of the parks £6.6million regeneration project a state of the art splash park has been installed which includes 30 splash pads, jets, fountains and paddling pools.


Love Parks Week 

Show your love for your park 14th – 23rd July

It is easy to get involved. Simply visit your local park, take a photo and share the reason why you love it with the hashtag #LoveParks. Keep Britain Tidy will be retweeting their favourites.


Big Camp Time at Ashridge 

Saturday 22nd July – Sunday 23rd July 

A chance to camp overnight on the medieval meadow. Arrive from 12 noon and visitors must be off site by 4pm on Sunday. 

The Bridgewater Monument will be open free for all campers.  One pitch, which accommodates one tent up to four people is £40.


Music at the Bandstand, Cassiobury Park 

Sunday 23rd July 2pm – 4pm 

Enjoy a lazy afternoon listening to live music. On July 23rd Milly Soo, a jazz band, will be playing.

Boxmoor Ghost Walk

Monday 17th July 8.30pm – 10pm

On the chalky moors, tales are told of murder, hangings and disaster. Meet the ghosts of Boxmoor and hear their stories. Do you dare…? Everyone is welcome but under 16’s need to be accompanied by an adult.

St James Road Church Pre-School Summer Fete

Wednesday 19th July 11.30am – 1.30pm

Games, food, face painting, raffle and more. All money raised will be used to buy toys and equipment for the pre-school.


Hemel Summer Festival

Saturday 22nd July – Sunday 30th July

Hemel’s Summer Festival celebrates all things local.

The festival begins with a Big Garden Party on Saturday at 11am to celebrate the official opening of the Jellicoe’s Water Gardens. This is followed by live entertainment from 11.30am to 4.30pm, with a wide range of food, stalls and activities.

On Sunday 23rd July the Riverside Beach Party will be open from 10am to 5pm.

From Monday 24th July to Friday 28th July, films will be played on the big screen every day at 10am.

To complete the festival, a food and drink festival will be on 11am to 5pm on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th.


Children’s Activity Morning

Wednesday 26th July and Thursday 27th July 10am – 1pm

St John the Baptist, Great Gaddesden

Two activity mornings taking place which are free to attend. Crafts, painting, story-telling and more. Juice and biscuits provided.


Cassiobury Farm Open Days

Visit a rare breeds farm, with Soay Sheep, Gloucester Old Spot Pigs, Pygmy Goats, Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Miniature Horses & Donkeys, Turkeys, Pheasants and so much more . . .

Enjoy a private collection of exotics, including Meerkats, Marmosets, Wallabies, Crested Cranes, Pelicans, Macaws, Raccoon Dogs, Arctic Foxes, Flamingos, Squirrel Monkeys, Binturong, Capybara, Tortoises and more . . .

There’s also lots of fun for the kids . . .  a bouncy castle, face painting, fishing, crazy golf...

Dunstable Downs Kite Festival

Saturday 29th July at 11am

A high-flying event full of the thrills and spills of professional kite flying and a warm atmosphere as the community gathers to enjoy the spectacle.

With plenty of activities to fill your day and lots of stalls to tempt you, this is an event not to be missed!

Free for National Trust members (you'll be able to join on the day if you'd like) or normal car parking fees apply.

, mini-tractor rides and animal encounters. Come and enjoy lunch on the meadow from our BBQ station or snack shop.

Little Scrummers Rugby: non-contact rugby for boys and girls aged 18 months to 7 years. 

Oxford Active: Holiday camps will be running this summer at Watford.

Bow Arrow Tag: a combination of archery, paintball, and dodge ball. It is a new safe and family friendly sport.
